Crawlers & Toddlers- Rain

My Crawlers group continues to be a delight to spend time with. They are inquisitive and eager to participate. The Toddlers on the other hand are ready for spring to truly arrive, and have a chance to run outside.  Story Hour on the Road is coming to all our parks this summer.  I choose rain for my theme this week, just because, and it actually worked out really nice.

We read
Rain by Manya Stojic* Beautiful book
Raindrop, Plop! by Wendy Lewison* lots of counting, easy rhymes
Rain Dance by Kathi Appelt
Rain By Robert Kalan* only with the crawlers

Here is the rest of the plan

Opening Song- Everybody say…
Wiggles
Nursery Rhyme: Chook, Chook, Chook

Rain on the Green Grass
Rain on the green grass,
Rain on the tree,
Rain on the housetop,
But not upon me!

The Eensy Weensy Spider
The eensy weensy spider
Went up the water spout
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
So the eensy weensy spider
went up the spout again.

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring
It’s raining, it’s pouring,
The old man is snoring.
He went to bed,
And he bumped his head,
And he couldn’t get up in the morning!

Counting Raindrops
Raindrop one and raindrop two,
You see me and I see you!
Raindrop three and raindrop four,
Are you knocking at my door?
Raindrop five and raindrop six,
Are you playing lots of tricks?
Raindrop seven and raindrop eight,
Falling on my garden gate.
Raindrop nine and raindrop ten,
Now it’s time to begin again!

Five Little Umbrellas
Five little umbrellas were waiting by the door.
Dad took the red one and then there were four.
Four little umbrellas by the hall tree.
Mom took the purple one and then there were three.
Three little umbrellas, one of them is blue.
My brother took that one and then there were two.
Two little umbrellas, our rhyme is almost done.
My sister took the yellow one, now there’s just one.
One little umbrella, a lonely orange one.
I took that umbrella and now there are none.

Baby Bloomers- Rain

Our Baby Bloomers are truly blooming. Today we had the biggest class of babies I have had since I started with 8 babies.  They are between 3 to 7 months old and at all stages, crawling, rolling over, giggling and making all sort of adorable noises. I confess it is they are the highlight of my week.

This week we read about rain...just because.

Raindrop, Plop! by Wendy Lewison
Rain Dance by Kathi Appelt
Rain, Rain, Go Away! by Caroline Church

Baby Bloomers- Farm Animals

These week's Baby Bloomers was a bit smaller- a couple of our babies took their morning nap during our regular story time.  They still came to the library later on, so I had my chance to play with them.  I found great pop-up books featuring farm animals. We read

Farm Animals by Lucy Cousins
Who Am I? Farm Animals
Pop-up Peekaboo! Farm

Baby Bloomers- Colors

For our Baby Bloomers I wanted to incorporate colors in a way that could be fun and engaging and not to scary.  These group of babies are very alert and ready to jump in and grab books, scarves, toys...and each other. They are the best group ever.  I decided to read these books

Crawlers & Totally Tots- Farm Animals

This week I tried a Farm Animals theme and it didn't work as planned.  The Crawlers were distracted with my finger puppets- my mistake for showing them off to early- and both group of Toddlers found our new flannel board highly amusing- it has wheels and it moves.  These are the books we read

Clip- Clop by Nicola Smee
Old MacDonald Had a Farm by Jane Cabrera
The Grumpy Morning by Pamela Duncan Edwards

We listened to

Shake Your Sillies from More Singable Songs
Run Baby Run from More Please! Love this songs- 3 minutes of action.
Bubbles from Feel the Music

Opening Song
Wiggles

Nursery Rhyme: Chook, Chook, Chook

I used little ducks for Five Little Ducks on our flannel board and listened to the same song from Baby Boogie.  Because both groups are big we ended having between 10-12 ducks on our board but it is still lots of fun.

This Little Cow
This little cow eats grass,
This little cow eats hay.
This little cow drinks water,
And this little cow runs away.
This little cow does nothing,
But just lie down all day.

Over in the Barnyard
Over in the barnyard
Early in the morning
See the yellow chickies
Standing in a row
See the busy farmer
Giving them their breakfast
Cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep
Off they go
*repeat w/ piggies, cows,..

Animals on the Farm- we used finger puppets for all the animals on the farm.
Pigs that oink,
And cows that moo,
Horses, sheep, and duckies, too.
Kittens, dogs, and fish that swim,
Chickens, roosters, gather in.
All of these friends you will see
If you come to the farm with me!

Rhyme: If You Are Happy and You Know It - I used this rhyme again with flannel pieces showing all the different emotions. I think the original idea came from Mel's Desk
If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands
If you’re surprised and you know it say Oh my
If you’re sad and you know if rub your eyes
If you’re scared and you know it shiver and shake
If you’re sleepy and you know it close your eyes
If you are angry and you know it stomp your feet
If you are happy and you know it clap your hands
