Baby Bloomers, Crawlers, & Totally Tots- Trucks, Trucks, Trucks!

We are down to our last couple of weeks of story time, hard to believe that 7 weeks have gone by already.  I love story time, I like the energy of the kids, and the fact that while I plan and have a vision of how I want the program to run, things change from one session to the next and are never the same.  Like this week I had planned on firetrucks and then ended expanding the theme to trucks in general.  It was awesome. Kids loved it and we had so much fun playing with all sorts of trucks and racing cars.   We started with our regular opening song

Opening Song
Everybody say one, story time has just began
Everybody say two, shake your shoulders show your shoes
Everybody say three, listen very carefully
Everybody say four, and put your bottoms on the floor

Wiggles
A wiggle, wiggle here
A wiggle, wiggle there.
Wiggle your hands up in the air
Wiggle our shoulders and wiggle your hips,
Wiggle your knees and move your lips,
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
And wiggle and bend
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle,
And this is the end!

Rhyme: If You Are Happy and You Know It (Emotion version)
If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands
If you’re surprised and you know it say Oh my
If you’re sad and you know if rub your eyes
If you’re scared and you know it shiver and shake

Another great option for Crawlers/Toddlers, even the babies were mesmerized by this book.  The illustrations are big and colorful and you can incorporate motion with each piece of equipment- the bulldozer push push push- use your hands to push; the crane lift, lift, lift- like one hand up. Great!
Rhyme:

Your Little Hands
Take your little hands and go clap, clap, clap
Take your little hands and go clap, clap, clap
Take your little hands and go clap, clap, clap
Clap, clap, clap  with your hands.
Take your little toes and go tap, tap, tap…
Tap, tap, tap with your toes.
Take your little ears and go wiggle, wiggle, wiggle….
Take your little eyes and go blink, blink, blink…
Take your little arms and go roll, roll, roll…

Action Rhyme: Here Are My Ears
Here are my ears. Here is my nose.
Here are my fingers. Here are my toes.
Here are my eyes both open wide.
Here is my mouth with white teeth inside.
Here is my tongue that helps me to speak.
Here is my chin and here are my cheeks.
Here are my hands that help me to play.
Here are my feet for walking today.

Goodbye Song- We Wave Goodbye Like This
We wave goodbye like this,
We wave goodbye like this,
to all our friends.
We clap our hands like this,
We clap our hands like this,
with all our friends.
Story time has ended.

Baby Bloomers, Crawlers, and Totally Tots- Birthdays

Last week's story time sessions feel so far away, we have had unbearable cold weather and snow but our families are amazing and show up every week ready to "wiggle" and  chant rhymes.  Last week I did Birthdays for my theme. We started with our opening song

Everybody say one, story time has just began
Everybody say two, shake your shoulders show your shoes
Everybody say three, listen very carefully
Everybody say four, and put your bottoms on the floor

Wiggles
A wiggle, wiggle here
A wiggle, wiggle there.
Wiggle your hands up in the air
Wiggle our shoulders and wiggle your hips,
Wiggle your knees and move your lips,
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
And wiggle and bend
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle,
And this is the end!

I love this book, the illustrations are perfect for this age group,
Rhyme:
Touch Your Nose
Touch your nose
Touch your chin,
That’s the way this game begins
Touch your thighs
Touch your knees,
Now pretend you’re going to sneeze
Touch your hair
Touch your ears,
Now touch your two lips right here
Touch your elbows,
Where they bend
That’s the way this touch game ends.

Nursery Rhyme:Baa, Baa Black Sheep
Song: Walking, Walking  I have been repeating this song almost every week because it gives us a great opportunity to dance and move around.

Book:It's My Birthday by Helen Oxenbury

Hand Motion rhyme: Birthday candles
Birthday candles one-two-three (hold up fingers on the count)
Birthday candles just for me! (point to self)
Last year two- next year four (hold up two fingers on left hand and four fingers on right)
Birthday candles I want more! (hold up 10 fingers)

I had planned on using the above rhyme but instead used a flannel I made a few years ago using pictures describing the entire process of making a cake- recipe, ingredients, mixing, oven, icing, and of course candles.  Kids love playing with the flannel board and it is a great way to engage shy kids.

Song: If You Are Happy and You Know It

Book:  Spot's Birthday Party by Eric Hill

The version we read had flips where all the different friends were hiding and it worked out really nice with small groups because we could all take turns lifting the flaps.

Movement Rhyme: Open, Shut Them
Open shut them, open shut them
Give a little clap, clap, clap
Open shut them, open shut them
Put them in your lap
Creep them, creep them
Creep them, creep them
Right up to your chin, chin, chin,
Open up your little mouth
But do not let them in!

Bubble Time

Goodbye Song- We Wave Goodbye Like This
We wave goodbye like this,
We wave goodbye like this,
to all our friends.
We clap our hands like this,
We clap our hands like this,
with all our friends.
Story time has ended.

Baby Bloomers, Crawlers, & Totally Tots- Valentine's Day!

Last week we celebrated Valentine's Day with our little ones.  We shared books that related to love in some ways since the concept of Valentine's is not something they relate to but we all relate to kisses and hugs!

We started with our usual opening song

Everybody say one, story time has just began
Everybody say two, shake your shoulders show your shoes
Everybody say three, listen very carefully
Everybody say four, and put your bottoms on the floor

Wiggles

Wiggle your hands up in the air
Wiggle our shoulders and wiggle your hips,
Wiggle your knees and move your lips,
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
And wiggle and bend
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle,
And this is the end!
