Baby Bloomers- Trains

Today's Baby Bloomers was all about trains. We read, played, and listened everything train. Our little ones loved to play with scarves as we listened to "Down By the Station". I switched our routine a bit and didn't place our toys out until story time was over.  This seemed to help the attention spam and engaged everyone with the songs and rhymes.  This is how it went:

Books:

Freight Train by Donald Crews* make  flannel
I Love Trains! by Philemon Sturges
A Train Goes Clickety-Clack by Jonathan London

Opening song:  “The More We Get Together”

Clapping rhyme: “Patty-Cake, Patty Cake”
Patty-cake, patty-cake, baker’s man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can.
Roll it and pat it and mar it with a “B” *use baby’s name initial
And put it in the oven for baby and me!

Wiggle rhyme:
A wiggle, wiggle here
A wiggle, wiggle there.
Wiggle your hands up in the air
Wiggle your shoulders and wiggle your hips,
Wiggle your knees and move your lips,
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
And wiggle and bend
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle,
And this is the end!

Clickety-clack, clickety-clack,- we didn't use this rhyme
Here comes the train on the railroad track!
Clickety-clunn, clickety-clunn,
Here comes ENGINE number one.
Clickety-clew, clickety-clew,
Here comes COAL CAR number two.
Clickety-clee, clickety-clee,
Here comes BOX CAR number three.
Clickety-clore, clickety-clore,
Here comes TANK CAR number four.
Clickety-clive, clickety-clive,
Here comes COACH CAR number five.
Clickety-clicks, clickety-clicks,
Here’s the CABOOSE, that’s number six.
Clickety-clack, clickety-clack,
There goes the train on the railroad track!
Choo-choooooooo! Goodbye!

Action Rhyme: “This Is a Choo-Choo Train”
This is a choo choo train
Puffing down the track
Now it’s going forward,
Now it’s going back,
Now the bell is ringing
Now the whistle blows
What a lot of noise it makes
Everything it goes. Credit: SurLaLune Storytime

Fingerplay: “This Little Train”
The little train ran up the track (run fingers up arm)
Toot, toot, toot (make train noises)
And then it came toot-tooting back (run fingers down arm)
Toot, toot, toot (make train noises) Credit: SurLaLune Storytime

Closing Song: “We Wave Goodbye Like This”
