This week was our last session of Spring story time. The past six weeks have gone by so fast, our babies and crawlers have grown so much, with their happy little personalities staring to show via quick lovely smiles, giggles, small crawls, and big leaps. This week I focused on reviewing some of the rhyme actions we have used throughout the session- This is Big, Wiggle-Wiggle, Touch Game, Thank You with claps. We listened to some of the old songs and of course had bubbles floating around the room. We read

We didn't read word by word but looked at the pictures and named the different items and narrated the story's action. Our playtime consisted of rolling our plastic balls without the parachute since our room is kind of small and our small toys.
As I plan for the fall session, I am looking at ways to incorporate more music and play along with different type of stories. For the babies, I want to focus on making the time stimulating without overwhelming their little senses. I am going to miss my Monday & Tuesday mornings surrounded by little kids but I know we will see each other at the library and around the community as we visit parks and our farmers market.

Totally Tots- Mother's Day
Our Totally Tots had so much fun creating hand print trees for their moms and grandmas. Our group yesterday was very energetic and wanted to dance and sing. We had a fun time pairing up "mama animals" with their "babies" (elephant, giraffes, seals, polar bears, zebras and more). We read

We sang "If You Are Happy and You Know It" changing the last verse to say "I Love My Mom".
We have continued to practice saying Thank You by clapping and stumping our feet.

Baby Bloomer & Crawlers- Mothers Day
This week I wanted to make something special for our mothers, they are an amazing group of moms that come every week, rain or shine to make sure their children have a chance to hear stories and sing songs. Our working moms are amazing too and send dad or grandma or the babysitter. I am not very crafty by nature but found this very simple idea on Pinterest and decided to go with it.
I decided to use only two books, our Nursery Rhyme- Mistress Mary- and a few songs ( Bubbles- of course- If You Are Happy And You Know It, and Skinnamarink) plus our regular welcome song & Wiggles, Wiggles. Our babies listened to

Our craft involved paint and surprisingly nobody got paint on their hair, or face, or clothes and none in the carpet or walls either. Here are a few of our happy mom's and babies

Baby Bloomers, Crawlers & Totally Tots- Bugs, Bugs, Bugs
Last week was truly a blurb of activity with four story time
programs and our first Dia celebration. In
addition, I was Saturday Librarian, changed displays, and prepared for this
week’s craft. Our Baby & Crawlers
enjoyed our very special pop-up version of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and
Caterpillar Spring. Both books have pop ups and interactive elements that work great
with this age group.
We used our flannel ladybugs and counted as we found them lying
around. Our Nursery Rhyme was Rub-Dub
Dub.

Our Totally Tots enjoyed the pop-up Very Hungry Caterpillar and loved to play with the laminated bugs I made using Bugs, Bugs, Bugs. We also read Butterfly, Butterfly with a beautiful pop-up butterfly at the end. We listened to "The Ants Go Marching In" and marched around the room.

I continue to use our regular welcome song, our bubbles song, and weekly rhymes like "Wiggle, Wiggle", "This Is Big", and "Thank You". We rotate our toys and activities and depending on the group size we played with the noodle bucket or blocks or simple put out soft shapes and color blocks for the babies. The parents are really amazing and are ready to interact and engage with the kids and me, which makes the entire story time seem like a blast.
